Homosassa
East winds have kept the tide pushed out to extreme low conditions, but warm temperatures have helped the fishing.
Trout fishing in the big creeks like St. Martins River, Little Homosassa River and Mason Creek are good starting spots. Incoming or outgoing tide is good as long as the waters moving. If the creeks get crowded from other anglers try the deeper areas just off the main channels. Look for kelp that will usually grow on one edge or the other of the deep holes or swashes, this is where the fish will be. The best baits are D.O.A. 3" shrimp, MirrOlure soft plastic baits, MirrOlure MirrOdines and live shrimp. The best artificial bait colors are newpenny, glow and watermelon redflake.
On the nearshore rocks there has been a good bite of black seabass. A soft plastic bait on a 1/4 oz. jighead is the best bait and a good trick is to keep one on the hook in the water if you catch one. The hooked seabass will attract others and will make it easier to catch multiple fish.
A few sheepshead are starting to show up on the nearshore rocks, live shrimp is the best bait. High incoming tide will be in the afternoon this weekend.

I am a fourth generation full time guide based out of Homosassa, Fla. Our family has made a living on the water before the 1900's. My bread and butter so to speak is trout and redfish but I do chase shallow water grouper, tarpon and many other inshore species of fish. I also offer cooked shorelunches on a private island and scalloping trips in season. My boat is a custom built Tremblay powered by Mercury Outboards. I am vice president of the Homosassa Guides Association, a associate member of Florida Outdoor Writers Association and host of Nature Coast Outdoors T.V. program on WYKE, BrightHouse channel 16 ( www.naturecoastoutdoors.net ). Fishing is my passion and I love to provide my clients with the best day possible on the water, with the best equipment and good old fashion service
He specializes in Red Fish, Trout, and Tarpon, to just name a few. His boat is a custom built 23' Tremblay Flats Boat powered by Mercury Outboards.

Capt. William Toney is a full time guide. U.S.C.G. licensed, insured and member of the Homosassa Guide's Association.
